Tekken 2
Released: 19960915
Publisher: Namco
Developer: Namco
Genre: Fighting

Review by: Carlo

Graphically, Tekken 2 featured smooth and realistic fighting animation
running at 60 frames per second. The lighting effects were great to look
at, and the game's polygon cinematics were the best of it's time. The flaw
here is that the fighters were blocky. Anyway, the visual of Tekken 2 is
great (but surely not as great as that of Tekken 3).

On audio, Tekken 2's got great music tracks that accompanies the fight and
it's expression. As for the sound FX, this one sounded more high-impact
than the sound FX of Tekken 3. You can hear the intensity of Marshal Law's
punching combo. The only flaw here is that there are some tracks that don't
sound good. Take Armor King's background sound track...boring.

Tekken 2's gameplay was unbeatable during it's time. The martial arts play
really put the play and fun on very high levels. The controls as always,
were topnotch and accurate to play with. You can play any way you like,
aggressive offense, combo oriented, or defensive. The combo's are great in
this one! There were some things that I wished for which did not make it to
Tekken 2 like side-stepping, side-throws, etc. Namco made up for that by
putting them on Tekken 3. Tekken 2's gameplay is still worth looking at.

Tekken 2 is another one of those "pure fun" fighting games. I played Tekken
2 to it's death and I enjoyed every moment of it. Jun Kazama was my fave
fighter on this game, and she's pure fun to play with. Other great
characters to use were Baek, Lei, Law, Paul and Lee. Mainly all fighters
here had their own fun style of play. The extras were fun too! The
Super-Deformed trick is fun to look at as the fighter's heads get very big.
The Punch-Out mode's truly unique in any fighting game! The only flaw here
is that there are
sub-bosses who are just hybrid clones as that of other fighters. Among PSX
fighting games that came out BEFORE Tekken 3, Tekken 2 is the best among
them all.

Overall, Tekken 2 is the "must have" game among old games. This one's still
worth your hard earned money. And since this one's old, you should go get
this one now that it's cheaper. Here in my place, Tekken 2 ranges from $25
to $33. You'll like this game, whether you're a beginner or veteran. Also
if you're not sure about buying Tekken 3, then rent Tekken 2 and use it as
a reference on deciding. Tekken 2 is old but great! The rendered cinemas
are great to watch, the extras are fun to use/watch, the additional modes
(Practice, Survival and Team-Battle) and so much more really make this one
better than it's arcade brother! Tekken 2 is the "Fighting Game of 1996" as
it's depth, fun and quality helped seal the victory for Namco. If you
missed this one back in 1996, then now's the time to get it! Go get Tekken
2 if you're looking for the best among old games.
