Halo, Halo 2 to Run at 720p with full screen AA on Xbox 360

Quote:
Bungie has recently revealed that both Halo and Halo 2 will not only run on the Xbox 360, but will also display at 720p (1280x720) resolution with full screen anti-aliasing on. The result is a game that now looks like a PC game running at that resolution.

Bungie hasn't modified the game at all, you'll still be using your existing games, but through the magic of software and the power of the Xbox 360 hardware, the game will now run at a higher resolution and also have full screen antia-aliasing, even in split-screen multiplayer!

Bungie has promised to reveal further details next Friday, but in the meantime, they have provided an image that compares both 480p and 720p modes:

I still hope it would let me play ALL the Xbox games instead of the "top selling Xbox titels" crap...

I mean, what about Serious sam, Enter the Matrix, BloodRayne, and Shenmue II? sure they may not be one of the best selling titles yet, but I sure love 'em to death.

Having spoken to sources at a few major publishers and developers (unfortunately none of which would go on the record) there seems to be some frustration from these parties on issues of backwards compatibility for Xbox 360.

A few of these developers and publishers had thrown source code over the wall to Microsoft under the auspices of having backward compatibility profiles and/or optimizations done for them. Unfortunately, most of these sources complained that once they had done delivered the code to Microsoft, they'd had very few updates (and in one case, no updates) on the status of their games.

The only thing a Microsoft spokesperson was willing to tell us is that announcements on exactly these issues were coming tomorrow (Friday, November 11).
Isn't the launch in 12 days?

I have read that Microsoft will have all their first party titles backwards compatible, but I'm not sure where that leaves third party games, and how long it'll take, and what it'll take, to get more titles working on the 360... I guess we'll see.

Am I the only one who doesn't give a shit about backward's compatibility? You would think the original xbox would stop running the day the 360 comes out. I'm sure space constraints in the entertainment center are not THAT big of an issue.

What are you talking about? The Xbox is HUGE and who knows how much ventilation the new one needs?

I dont think I own a single one of those games.

I can definitely see why some titles are missing (Amped 2, DOA Ultimate, Project Gotham), to get people to go out and buy the new incarnations of them, but there were quite a few others I was definitely hoping for.. Jet Set Radio, Shenmue 2, Panzer Dragoon, especially seeing some of the others thrown in there (Kabuki warriors? Catwoman? BMX XXX?)

I was hoping to be able to get rid of the current xbox, but those couple games (among a couple others not on the list) definitely keep me from doing so, which would be smart on Microsoft's part.

speaking of Backwards Compatibility, will we be able to use our orginal Xbox memory unit on Xbox 360 to save date on the orginal titles?

since the Xbox360 memory unit looks completely different...will that still work at all cost or not?

Well just remember, Microsoft will be working on making more and more titles backwards compatible. Right now 10 out of my 21 Xbox games are on that list. To sort of answer Steels question, I don't know if you're SOL regarding the memory cards but I read somewhere that you're suppose to be able to take your game saves off your old Xbox HD if you have a network, and have the original system and 360 online at once. I'm not sure if that was posted here or not. I'll have to try and find the original source.

Anyway, here's another nice tidbit regarding backwards compatibility:

Quote:
Xbox.com: Will there be any benefits to playing original Xbox games on my Xbox 360 console?

Todd: Absolutely. One of the great things about gaming on Xbox 360 is the satisfaction of knowing that every game will be playable in high definition. We are now proud to reveal that this extends to the original Xbox games as well. Every original Xbox game will be upscaled to 720p and 1080i, and will take advantage of Xbox 360’s anti-aliasing capabilities, delivering a picture that is clearer and crisper than anything available on Xbox.

If the original xbox is too big, you need a new entertainment center. Jeezus I'm a broke ass college student and I can still find room for both.

Nope. You can't even use your saved games on your Xbox hard drive either.
