Microsoft Most powerful console available. The Xbox is doing well on its homecourt, but on the road sales aren't dominating.

Question If both XBOX 2 and PS3 hit shelves at the same time, which are you gonna buy first?

I've been thinking about this a few times lately, since both consoles are getting late in their lifecycle. The XBOX is getting some GREAT games right now, and I'm thinking that support for XBOX 2 will be even greater than it is right now since developers are now seeing they CAN make money by making games for the XBOX. But you know that the PS3 will snap up the big franchises once again, and XBOX 2 owners will have to wait for those games only for them to be shitty ports that don't take advantage of the hardware, and take away any graphical advantage the XBOX 2 MAY or MAY NOT have over the PS3. I know the ideal answer is "buy them both", but which one will you buy FIRST?

Personally, I'd go for PS3 first.. The PSone and PS2 have a trend of keeping the game's I seem to be more into, while I'm not a big fan of most Xbox title's.. (Still love the console though, and has some awesome exclusive's), I'm just more into the single player story-driven games than the multiplayer/shooter types the Xbox has for the most part.

PS3. I may get an Xbox 2 later depending on the software. But judging from current trends PS3 is most likely to deliver the kind of games I want.

I won't be early adpoting next round.

My standard answer is that it will depend on launch games and value (which one has "blank" pre-installed, etc.), but realistically, I'll probably have access to dev kits for both before launch even comes.

probaly neither on launch. I will wait until the price drops on both. I have enough PS2 and XBOX games in my collection to last the next few years.

I'm not getting burnt again on a full price console, so I will not be buying either right away.

Easy answer.

Whichever console has more launch titles I'm interested in.

I'm not "brand loyal" in the least, so it really comes down to the launch games.

Halo, Project Gotham, and Munch's Oddyssey sold me on the Xbox.

The only other criteria that came into play when I had to choose between Game Cube, PS2, and Xbox was the DVD player capability. That was a big black mark against the Cube since at the time I didn't own a DVD player.

Depends on the games that will be there at launch. If say Halo 3 is an Xbox 2 launch title then that alone will be the thing to make my decission... but we'll see what happens down the road.

A few years ago, I would've immediately said both. But now that my gaming time has been cut short and the inevitable price drops that occur will soon come after, I know that I wouldn't buy either at launch.

I try not to purchase systems at launch. Many times there are bugs in the first generation consoles that need to be worked out. Price will drop too. As far as which system I think will have a better launch goes...If the PS3 launch is anything like the PS2 launch, I don't think Xbox 2 will have much trouble topping it. I remember a very dull PS2 launch.

Now that I think about it, it doesnt matter. I will own them both eventually. I bought the ps2 first, then a year later I picked up an xbox. Then I picked up a GC strictly for Zelda, and I played maybe 45 minutes of it.

I should stop buying games now, and concentrate on the ones I have. I really want to play kingdom hearts that I got for christmas last year. It has yet to be opened.

I'll eventually own them both, but the system with the best line up of games will be bought first. Console brand loyalty is the most asinine behavior a person can disply. It's not like someone buying a Nissa because they prefer the styling of the car, it's performance or warranty package.
On the contrarty, a specific console is only as strong as it's available gaming catalogue.

I'd purchase a car based on it's styling (assuming it's in my spending range). In fact, I think most people do.

Regardless, I don't follow what that has to do with the console analogy.

At any rate, I'm sure I'll own them both a year or two after launch when the prices drop to $149.99 - $99.99.

Are we at the point to where systems will sell for $199.99 at launch, since MS has stated that when PS3 luanches, XBOX 2 launches? The PS2 was able to launch for $299.99 since no other system was out at the time. Yeah the DC was out, but SONY never really saw the DC as a threat which it wasn't. I mean IF both systems are on the shelf together at the same time launch wise, maybe both companies will have a price war right away. Wishful thinking maybe?

I'm saying that brand loyalty shouldn't be a factor in the gaming realm. A console is nothing but a means to enjoy it's library of games, inot a stand-alone product. You can have the most technologically advance piece of hardware, but if it's games suck, then you have a high end dust collector.

I'm definitely going to wait for a price drop on both systems before I buy either. I've got a huge backlog of games right now.

My decision will be based on a combination of the games and console - as it was last time. The library of games available for both the xbox and PS2 interested me. In fact the PS2 probably had more games. However I can only play so many so if I only have time for 5 or 6 titles whether there are 50 or 150 makes no real difference. I liked the features the xbox offered - especially the better graphics and more importantly the hard drive. I never want to have to deal with a memory card again. I also was fond of the controllers as well.

I'd go xbox2 first mainly because I hardly ever play my ps2 and I like XBL much much better than ps2 online.

Well I'm going to end up with both sooner or later, but as someone else also mentioned, before I go and buy new systems I'm going to be delving far into my backlog of the current generation and polish those off first.
