Question How many PS2 games for you in 2002?

I just realized that I've acquired 20 PS2 games this year. This includes purchases, gifts, and stuff picked up with store credit.

Let's review:

Red Faction - $20 used on eBay RIGHT BEFORE it became a GH
TimeSplitters - $10 new @ KayBee toys
Virtua Fighter 4 - N/A (birthday gift)
Twisted Metal: Black - $20 new @ Best Buy
Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec - $20 new @ Wal-Mart
Maximo: Ghosts To Glory - $10 used @ BBV
SSX: Tricky - $20 new @ KayBee toys
MOH: Frontline - $30 new @ EB ($50 - $20 store credit)
Tekken Tag Tournament - $20 new on eBay (same story as Red Faction)
AirBlade - $10 new @ EB
Splashdown - $20 new @ EB
Ico - $15 new @ EB
Sled Storm - $10 new @ Target
Madden NFL 2003 - $50 new @ Circuit City
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 - N/A ($10 gift card from Madden purchase used)
Tekken 4 - $50 new @ Best Buy (w/ free strategy guide... got one with VF4 too)
GTA Vice City - N/A (store credit @ EB... didn't pay for Metroid Prime either )
Mr. Mosquito - $10 new @ Circuit City
Silent Hill 2 - $15 new @ Best Buy ($20 GH - $5 coupon)
Ratchet & Clank - N/A (Christmas gift)

Overall, not a bad haul.

16-20... 15 now, a couple more by week's end (Christmas money).

The 15:
  • Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance -- 50$ new @ Wal-Mart
  • Drakan: The Ancients' Gates -- 15$ new @ Circuit City
  • FreQuency -- 10$ new @ Media Play (for online play)
  • Grandia 2 -- 0$ (Ubi-Soft "Buy 2 RPGs, Get 1 Free" deal)
  • Grandia Xtreme -- 0$ (christmas present)
  • Jade Cocoon 2 -- 35$ new @ Circuit City
  • Kingdom Hearts -- 50$ new @ Circuit City (free poster)
  • Shadow Hearts -- 50$ new @ Wal-Mart
  • Suikoden 3 -- 0$ (christmas present)
  • Summoner 2 -- 0$ (christmas present)
  • The Legend of Alon D'ar -- 0$ (late 2001 christmas present)
  • Tsugunai: Atonement -- 40$ new @ Buy Back Games
  • Warriors of Might and Magic -- 10$ new @ eBay
  • Wizardry: Tales of the Forsaken Land -- 45$ new @ EB Games
  • Wild ARMs 3 -- 35$ new @ Best Buy (via EGM coupon)
By week's end:
  • Dual Hearts -- 20$ new @ www.bestbuy.com
  • Legaia 2: Duel Saga -- 40$ new @ www.bestbuy.com
  • King's Field: The Ancient City -- Only if I can find it cheap...
  • Shifters -- 10$ or less @ eBay (otherwise not getting it)
I'm for sure getting Dual Hearts and Legaia 2, ordering them today. The other two I'm going to try to get off ebay for cheap, Shifters has gone for under 10$ for awhile now, so that shouldn't be hard... King's Field is a big iffy one, though, if I can't get it under 30$ I won't be able to afford it.

More than I probably should have, considering I had no job for nearly all of 2002. I dunno, probably like 30. There was a big half-off K*B Toys sale for a selection of PS2 games back in the summer at some point, that turned into about 10 games for me right there.

All the ones I got:

Devil May Cry
Metal Gear Solid 2
Medal of Honor: Frontline
Suikoden 3
Madden 2003
Virtua Fighter 4
Contra: Shattered Soldier
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

And I believe that's all. I got GTA3 and Final Fantasy X in 2001, so I can't add them to the list.

Jeez, I'm not sure what all ones we got but I'm positive it's either 16-20 or the last one about Jasn3. We got our PS2 w/4 games last Christmas, and from then till now our collection is exceeding 25. Lots of goodies.

Sweet Jebus. And I thought I got a lot of great deals this year with the Greatest Hits and the slashed price titles like Ico. I'm probably not gonna get much before the summer besides DMC2 and Tenchu 3. But then again, I said the same exact thing last year.

Quote:

I'm glad to see it. But I'll probably wait for VF4 Evo to become a Greatest Hit before I buy it (whenever the hell that happens, probably 2004 with my luck). VF4 was dropped to $20 extremely fast, though it might have been because Tekken 4 was coming out.

Either way I don't feel like paying $50 for the same game twice. Kinda sucks since the only 3D fighter worth mentioning that's coming out for sure next year is Soul Calibur 2.

That's a damn nice starting library, really varied too... Could use some more RPGs, though.

I know, I know. I have to admit, other than the FF series, I never really paid attention to RPGs, although I have loved the ones I played. What would you recommend picking up? New release or older game, it doesn't matter as long as it's good.

The best turn-based RPGs are Suikoden 3 and Final Fantasy X. A few more good ones worth checking out are Wild ARMs 3, Grandia Xtreme, and Shadow Hearts.

And the best for action/RPGs, excluding Kingdom Hearts, are Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance (better with two-players) and Dual Hearts (but be warned, it's really quirky). Few other good ones are Dark Cloud and Drakan: The Ancients' Gates.

Final Fantasy X and Suikoden 3 are your safest bets, really... The rest are sort of hit-or-miss, so you may want to rent those (or buy at EB/GameStop), just in case; and so you don't come after me with a knife, and waving a 50$ receipt for recommending a game you hate.

Hopefully that doesn't happen, though.

My entire PS2 collection was gathered in 2002...

A whole 8 games. Only 3 of which that I've spent much time with.

Probably going to pick up Devil May Cry within the next week or so. But that'll be 2003. =)
