It is enteresting that one man's trash is another mane's treasure.

I wouldn't touch either of those games with a 10 foot poles, but that's not to say that they are great games of course. People used to play the sh*t outta that Aliens vs. Predator in the arcades.

I think ALL of my true favorite arcade games are retro ones. Trying to keep the list small, my all times arcade favorties boil down to:
  • The Lengendary Warrior Rygar
  • Black Tiger
  • Rolling Thunder
  • Dragon Spirit
  • Scramble Spirits
  • Toobin'
  • Smash T.V.
  • Gondomania
  • Ikari Warriors
  • Victory Road
  • Street Fighter (the original)
  • Space Harrior
  • OutRun
  • Shinobi
  • Forgotten World
  • R-Type (original)

~Peace!~

When your list is 20 games long, it's not longer a list of favorites...It's a list of games you really really liked.

My favorite is tie between two games.

Street Fighter II Turbo - I don't think I have to really explain this, except to say that I was damn good at this game and played many an hour of vs. on a mere 50 cents.

S.T.U.N. Runner - One of the first games I can remember really playing (as in playing to beat). I can't recall how much money I threw away on this machine, but I could probably have bought something pretty cool for myself if I hadn't. Oh well.

You should get Ms. Pac-Man Maze Madness for the DC. It's only $9.99 at Best Buy. The play mechanics are virtually the same as the original. It even includes the original if your felling nostalgic.

Very easily.

Total Carnage is a horrible, terrible awful game. It's nothing but a quarter munching gimmick made to exploit Smash T.V. fans.

I can end Smash T.V. alone, and on a single quarter and still be challanged -- I don't know anyone else who can (I'm sure that someone can of course). Total Carnage isn't even fair. There's no way in hell to beat the bosses without plunking in a NUMBER of coins. Maybe it's easier with 2 players?

Total Carnage bytes royally.

WOW!!! to be able to beat Smash T.V. on one quarter is pretty fucking amazing. The odds are like a billion to one. But I like Total Carnage. Then again I usually play it for free at nickle nickle

Hell Moonie, you belong to an exclusive "Smash TV" club then. There less the 20 video game players "known" to beat this coin-op on one quarter.

My record is finishing the game on $2.50. That's 1 game with 9 continues - that was considered excellent back in the day.

Congrats once again.

FTR: I liked Total Carnage - though I never really played the coin op version. I did enjoy the SNES verison even though it ripped you off a lot.

However. nothing compares to their forefather Robotron 2084 or the take off Space Dungeon IMO.

I can end Smash TV on a quarter even when it's set to hardest. I'm get VERU good at that game. Most people DO NOT understand how you play it.

You have to understand key principles:
  • ALWAYS play player two...because he's black
  • Conserve your ammunition. People thing that because it runs out so fast it's not worth trying to save. Idiots. Rockets last longer then anything else on the game and should be fired 1 or 2 at a time. They go throw everyone, so there's no reason to waist them.
  • Learn the right paths to take. The bonus rooms ALWAYS have several extras in it. The onlt problem with the game is that they don't allow you anymore then 9 extra lives at a time. If you have 9 and you put an extra up...it doesn't count.
  • Mutoid man is the easiest boss EVER on ANY video game. He cant reach the corner. All you have to do is get rid of the gunners on the side of him. The rest is a waiting game. The same for the final boss.
  • Scareface is THE hardest boss on the game. If you can get passed him, you're home free. It's just a matter of knowing how to take him out and how to dodge the starlight bombs he throws when he's a skull. It's almost easy. Plus acquiring bombs of any type gives you a shield when fighting bosses. Always dash for the bombs and you'll be alright.
  • It's better to play alone. At least I think it is because people really do NOT know how to play this game.
  • The MOST important item on the game is the orb. It doesn't double, but it TRIPLES your firepower (it also runs your ammo out 3 times as fast too). having that orb is the KEY to flying throw the game. So long as you keep that thing rotating around you, you're virtually unstoppable.

I'm sure that there are a lot of other people who can end Smash TV on a quarter as well. I've just never met any of them where I'm from. There are plenty of Arcade games that I can end on a quarter that almost no one else I know can. Like:
  • Toobin'
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
  • NARC
  • 1942
  • 1943
  • Victory Road
  • Space Harrier
  • After Burner
  • Ninja Gaiden
  • Silk Worm
  • Thundercade
  • Gain Ground
  • Gondomania
  • Forgotten Worlds (I know that's not hard, but no one else that I KNOW can without continuing)

After Burner is the only one that I can't end every time play it though...more like one outta 4 times. It's a really tough (but fair) game. Forgotten Worlds and NARC are two other games that people simply don't understand how to play, even though they're both easy as hell. I can play NARC for 3 hours straight on a quarter, not that I have the time to waste now as I did in my Junior high school days.

I NEVER, EVER, EVER continue Arcade games. Never. It's a thing I have about that. It's up there with male homosexuality. I just could never bring myself to pay to continue you a video game. I'd much rather just start over from the beginning again.

~Peace!~

Hell Moonie, you belong to an exclusive "Smash TV" club then. There less the 20 video game players "known" to beat this coin-op on one quarter.

-- Game Rogue
Oh sh*t. I didn't realize that it was YOU who say that Rogue. You keep up with that sorta stuff I know (record longers and sh*t), so you really mean that there are that few people known to beat the game in a single quarter?

Damn, now I do fell sorta special.

And yeah CAPninja, I've seen the end. You have to fight the same boss SEVERAL times over and he constantly comes back with a different form until he's finally Hitler at the last stage. Very Lame. The bosses are what make's the game so sh*tty. There's no way to beat them with out having to continue.

Total Carnage = Total Ripoff.

I have always believed that in regards to all games I play. So much so that I always wished coin-ops would have some sort of 2-player LockOut feature, lol..

A few that I can think of off the bat-[*]Space Harrier[*]After Burner[*]Super Hang-On [*]Crime Patrol[*]Maddog Mcree
[*]Nam '75 (I was quite surprised to read how the folks at Gamefan thought this game was hard and they spent needed to spend an entire $5 to end it. I always thought they were wayyyyy better than me at games but I guess this is one of those games that I'm so in tuned with that I can sometimes end it without even dying once.)
[*]King of the Monsters

There are some other games and Fighters and such, but who can't end a fighting without continuing?
I did manage to complete Marvel vs. Capcom and KOF '98/99 on my very first try.

Arcade gaming just always had a cool factor that not even console gaming could touch.
