Arrow - MMA News Thread -

I think we need a thread like this...

Forrest Griffin Vs. Anderson Silva OFFICIAL for UFC 101

and...

Fedor Emelianenko apparently submitted Shinya Aoki at the Dream M-1 Challenge to continue his dominance in anything and everything he does, pretty much...

thoughts?

Of course Fedor submitted Aoki..he outweighs him by 70 fuckin pounds..

Oh and I think Griffen takes the Silva fight....I think his chin and size will keep him in it.

I think he'll have to get the fight to the ground though. Because even if he does last 3 rounds on the feet with Anderson I cant seem him out pointing the Spider. You know assuming he does more fighting than dancing this time around.

In a grappling only match weight is a little bit easier to overcome. But either way it was just for entertainment purposes.

All bias aside, I don't think Forrest has the upper hand in any way, whether they stand or go to the ground.

Silva is the best dirty boxer in MMA and he also has some of the best submission defense. If they go to the ground it will be a long boring fight because I don't think Forrest is technically sound enough in his submissions, though his wrestling is great, to submit Silva.

Forrest does have a tremendous chin, but that has become as much a detriment to his success, as a credit to it. He will sometimes eat shots he would be better served to block or dodge. If he tries to eat what Silva throws, hes fucked. Silva will use that to get inside and demolish him with knees ala Rich Franklin.

With all that said, Silva by KO.

Fedor vs Aoki was a grappling only exhibition match It had to be that way since the huge weight difference.

Actually I don't mind events like that. Sometimes I wonder things like how BJ Penn would do against Big Nog in a grappling only match. All entertainment purposes only.

Here is a recent training session between Fedor and Mousasi (a LHW). Even though it was only training, he just tooled Mousasi, and Mousasi is a faily good LHW - a future top 10 LHW imho. At 230 and chubby, Fedor could easily cut to 205...

Up to this point Gregard has fought all his fights at MW. So thats even more of a case for Fedor making LHW.

I am not trying to be an asshole, but that is far more than just "grappling" to me. Fedor and the other kid were both pulling out BJJ submission moves and Greco Roman style wrestling moves.

Perhaps grappling is a term used now to describe any fight in which striking isn't allowed. If so, I apologize, I was unaware. When I was fighting, "grappling" was much more specific than whats going on in that ring.

Generally yea, Grappling events are considered stuff like BJJ tournaments, Wrestling, Judo. This was a weird combination though. That's why they just called it a "grappling exhibition" instead of a jiu-jitsu match or sambo match or something.

Ok, thank you for clarification. When I last checked into it, grappling matches would have essentially consisted of Judo and sub-schools of Judo. BJJ is about as far from Judo as Kung-Fu is from Tae-Kwon-Do.

Not news, but this is the best list for Oh Shit MMA moments ever. If you don't chuckle at least a little bit at some of the one liners in there you have no soul.
