Nintendo working on SNES Classic Edition

I'm sure they won't screw this one up.

Quote:
NINTENDO WILL REPORTEDLY RELEASE SNES CLASSIC EDITION THIS YEAR

Eurogamer - whose sources correctly leaked information about Nintendo's Switch console prior to its reveal - claims that the SNES Classic Edition (or SNES Mini in Europe) will be released in time for Christmas, and that development is underway.

IGN Article
Sure would have been nice if they had made a few more NES Classics, before they started worrying about an SNES.

That's if pre-orders are even offered! I don't recall them doing it for the NES Classic, but I could be wrong. I guess we'll see.

Outside of Mario 64 and Goldeneye, the N64 sucked.

The n64 had a handful of amazing multiplayer games. GoldenEye, Mario Kart, Smash, few others. Outside of that, I honestly liked the PSone and Saturn more.

But I really wanted a NES Classic, but couldn't get one. Now I don't even want to try for the SNES Classic, it's too much of a headache. And I honestly have more nostalgia for the NES than SNES. But I have no doubt the SNES Classic will probably have games that will hold up better than the classic...

...I'm hoping pre-orsera actually happen for this one. If not I guess I'll in line early trying to get one, I actually was able to get a NES classic Monday.

Nintendo is absolutely unable to shift on the fly. The NES one was planned as a limited run, and that didn't change despite its runaway success. I'm sure this one will be the same.

Still, it's pretty easy to build an emulator box out of a Raspberry Pi.

The NES classic made me want to take a mini Genesis usb hub and turn it into a case for my Raspberry Pi but I guess everybody else had the same idea because they used to be $20 and now they are $50 on ebay.

So the news is already a week or so old, but Nintendo made it official, giving a September 29th launch date. They also said they plan to produce more than the NES Classic, which in my mind still might not mean much, because they could produce twice as many and it still wouldn't nearly be enough to meet the demand.

I'll try to get one, and I hope there's actual pre-orders this time. It's a little more expensive than the NES Classic Edition, but the game list looks super solid, and it's also coming with 2 controllers (which helps justify the price increase). Also it comes with Star Fox 2, which Nintendo never released:

Contra III: The Alien Wars
Donkey Kong Country
EarthBound™
Final Fantasy III
F-ZERO
Kirby Super Star
Kirby’s Dream Course
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Mega Man X
Secret of Mana
Star Fox
Star Fox 2
Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
Super Castlevania IV
Super Ghouls ’n Ghosts
Super Mario Kart
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
Super Mario World
Super Metroid
Super Punch-Out!!
Yoshi’s Island

Nintendo needs to require that all units must be sold in a physical store and limit one per customer. If you go on Ebay it is not uncommon to see a seller with a pyramid of NES Classics. I read that this is happening because some people are using a software program that automatically buys up all the NES Classics once they are available. If you try to buy online you are competing against a bot.

https://venturebeat.com/2016/11/15/n...nd-their-bots/

I am looking at one Ebay account right now. He has his NES Classics listed at $399.99 + free shipping and it says he sold 90 of them already. Even if he paid 10% sales tax on each unit, $20 each unit to ship (from online store to him to final destination) and 9% Ebay fee he is still making $278 per unit. At 90 units that is $25,000 profit.

I don't have a problem if somebody wants to go on foot around town to make some extra bucks but when a software program does all the work and they make $25k that is over the line.

That is pretty crazy. He hit the jackpot too once they announced they were being discontinued.

So back on the 21st somebody I follow on Twitter had re-tweeted another person who said something like "Get it before it's too late," and he included a link to the SNES Classic on Walmart's website. Sure enough it was available for pre-order, so I immediately purchased one. I then got an email confirmation and everything.

The next day the page was taken down from Walmart's site and I even joked that I'm sure it was all too good to be true and they'd start canceling pre-orders. Sure enough the following day (the 23rd) people were posting that they got notifications from Walmart saying it was an error, that they weren't suppose to be available to pre-order yet, blah blah. I myself never got the email... until today.

I got an email at 3:40pm, basically saying the pre-order was a glitch, that they weren't suppose to go up, and they even ended with "I do hope you’ll give us another chance to earn back your business." Fine, whatever. I figured this was going to happen. But THEN, just under 4 hours later I got another email making it sound like my pre-order was still on:

Quote:
Status update!
Your preorder date has changed.

Hello Jerome,

We wanted to let your know that your preorder item release date has changed. The updated release date is 09/29/2017.

Please review your order details below.

We're sorry if this date change is an inconvenience. The product manufacturer controls the release date for this product and we'll ship it to you as quickly as we can once it's released.

If you have any questions, please visit our Help Center. Please do not reply to this email. This mailbox is unmonitored.

-Your Walmart Customer Care Team
I went back and looked at my original pre-order email confirmation and they had the release date as some time in October. So I don't know. I'm sure my pre-order is still cancelled, but Walmart is showing they're just as incompetent as Nintendo.

Pre-orders have been happening today. Best Buy, Amazon, Walmart and GameStop have all taken pre-orders today, and of course they were gone in a matter of minutes. I tried with two different sites and had no luck.

I freakin' hate Nintendo.

I was actually incredibly lucky for once in my life and happened to browse GAF at like 1AM last night and caught right when someone made a thread saying Best Buy were taking pre-orders and managed to snag one.

Nice!

I saw a tweet, that was like 2 minutes old, that they were up on Walmart. Despite the fact they screwed me about a month ago, I thought I'd try again. They were gone by the time I got a new tab open, and their site loaded up. Then I tried GameStop and they must have been getting hit so hard their site went down.

I don't think it's hard to understand that most people aren't going to mess with a Raspberry Pi/emulator and download ROMs. It's much like people who buy a Dell computer instead of building their own.

I have a Pi 3 with every NES, SNES, Genesis ROM loaded and I'll still buy one of these. It's cool looking.

BTW, the Rewind Feature in video games was the worst thing ever invented. Just saying.
