I'm about to trade in my 2000 Ford Expedition soon. I want to get a Nissan Altima Coupe, but I don't know if I should do that or get a small SUV or car like a Subaru that has All Wheel Drive, for the winters here...The coupe sure is sexy and I loved it when I test drove it...

The Altima coupe should be fine in winter as long as you don't have summer/sport tires on it.

I almost bought an Altima coupe last year, but their pricing packages are absurd. To get in-dash navigation you have to pay $10k, and most of the other shit you get is pointless crap. I ended up getting an Acura TSX. The only options on the car were navigation and fog lights. Everything else was standard, and this car has just about everything except satellite radio.

Also, if you get an Altima, go with the V6. The base 4cyl is cheaper, but there are alot more standard features with the base V6, and if you were to spec out the 4 banger with them it would end up costing more.

What is your price range?

Honestly, I wasn't looking to spend more than 21k, and I've had a coupe offers on the Coupe for around 19.5k. I really don't need the navigation and satellite radio and all that crap.

I'm getting all of my windows tinted on the 23rd to the max legal (40% front side, 25% rear side, 12% rear windshield), using hybrid tint that blocks 99% of UVA/UVB rays, and includes a lifetime warranty against all defects. It's $163.50 with local sales tax.

It's fake. There's no holes in them for an actual Ram Air intake. The only thing that makes it SLIGHTLY better than a scoop held on with screws and tape is that its an actual hood. However, its still absolutely ridiculous.

This is what the real thing looks like. Notice the opening in the hood.

I paid tint window around $200 I think. It was last year. It is just depend what kind tint company charge all over the states.

Gambor: My hood scoop is really go to that hole. Of course I pour the water in the hood scoop to the hole to see. I see the water drip to the hole from pour the water. See my back hood that day I brought and open the package. Really, it doesn't matter with me. The hood look good if it is fake or not.

Sorry Pat, you got called out. Don't pretend to be a "car guy" when you didn't even realize that your hood scoops were fake. Sure, they look nice, but they are purely there for show, not function. (BTW, it is a nice looking car)

No one is perfect anyway. I would like to get metal real hood scoop but it cost lot of money so my hood is pretty good. It was on sale so I couldn't pass that deal. My engine is not that fast too. It is 3100 engine. I'm not really worry about "ram air". Mostly, I like good appearance look.

Thanks for comment about my car. Sorry for theadhack... just want to point it out it is "old" car and over 100K mileage lol

And if my 100k+ mileage car was in that kind of condition, I'd have kept it. However, I bought it used, 4 years old, with 32k miles. This "new" car is used, nearly 2 years old, and 48k miles. I'm not going to fall in love with my new Pontiac like you did with yours, because mine wasn't mine from the start.

My plan is to ride this car, keep it in good condition, and shortly after my deployment, trade it in for a brand new car that I can break in. Ideally, I'd like to get 10 years out of a new car. Hell, I got 6 out of a car that was already 4 years old, so getting 10 out of a new car should be doable.

Agreed... no disrespect... must be a rental or some long ass commuter to rack up those kinds of miles.

My cars, a 2007 CX9 just cracked 11k and a 2006 Grand Vitara with 18k. Now my 1989 Dodge Ram 50 had 114k at trade in. Hopefully... in 3 to 4 years I'll get my '94/'95 Porsche 928.

My 2004 Acura TSX has 97000 on it now. 20K of which I put on it myself over a year and a half.

The car drives like it was brand new still

Hence the low price, and me not falling in love with the car. Also, the desire to trade it in within the next 3-4 years. I drive 8-10k miles per year, so this may never hit 100k with me.

are window tinting % laws different in different states or is there a pretty standard level across the board?

They differ from state to state. The numbers quoted in my post about tinting are specific to Louisiana. Here's a reference for every state.

http://www.tintcenter.com/laws/

Indiana seems to be similar to Louisiana, though it allows slightly more reflection, and although it allows for a darker frond-side tint, it doesn't allow you to fade darker as you go back.

I have 160K on my 2002 Olds. We bought it new. That's about 23,000 miles a year. It's my wife's car and she hasn't worked in almost 3 years.

The Scoops are a questionable, but they are at least "functional" in the sense of some limited air flow the hole in the bottom of the hood in his picture feeds directly into the air box of the car. The problem is that the underhood temps and indirect intake path actually drive UP the intake temp. Patrick you are better off to close the hole in your airbox, as the intake pulls cold air from behind the driverside headlight, much cooler than the hot air coming out of that hood. It's certainly a bad design but it is "functional"
