Isn't every game in your hands?

"He's got the whole world...in his hands"

Stupid...stupid...stupid...I can't believe I said that. I feel like a third grader:D.

 how come people don't just post the impressions.... it's a pain in the ass knowing someone has it and waiting for a 2nd opinion (2nd opinion to a gaming mag/site). Oh, BTW.... what about the "game freeze"?

Shaolin October 8th, 2002 10:57 PM

Its later, Gawddammit. Come forth with the skinny.

Perhaps he couldn't give his impressions because he hasn't played it yet... Maybe he got home and was so excited he posted that he got it, before he openend it, and is now, as I'm typing this, playing it to death :)

Shaolin October 8th, 2002 11:38 PM

Yeah, well... I wouldn't quite describe it as whooped. More like defensively thwarted. :D

Haven't even cracked open the shrinkwrap, guys. My bad! MiaBran, me and some others were getting it on in Halo - Gamespy style! :) I'll try and get some in before I go to work.

Closing Comments
NBA 2K3 is the game to get if you want as realistic an NBA experience as possible. This is by far the best basketball sim out there. However, if you are looking for an experience closer to old-school bball games like NBA Jams, then you don't want to go here. There are other solid basketball games that offer a more arcade experience. There's nothing wrong with any of those games, but none of them manage the intelligent AI, the amazingly realistic graphics, or as real a hoops experience as NBA 2K3.
Yes, there are nagging problems and I think next year the flow of gameplay needs to be addressed, but this is about as good as basketball games get. The Franchise Mode is improved and will be even better once NCAA College Basketball 2K3 is out and the senior class can be imported into the draft.

If you've always been with Sega's hoop title, don't stop now, it's been fixed and made even better. If you're new and looking for a really solid sim that does basketball intelligently and realistically, this is your game. And if you want a more run-and-gun fun style, then maybe try one of the other offerings this year, because NBA 2K3 don't mess and if you're not prepared, it will aggravate you.--

I know reviews don't mean a whole lot, but for some reason, this summation seems balanced.....though, I'll tell you how much I agree with it later......

Forget the other teams, how cool is Jordan in the game??!!

Hopefully the Wizards are getting some justice this time.

The Krakken October 9th, 2002 10:36 PM

Jordan hardly misses on this game. He plays litreally like he does in real life. Its cool watching even though he is beating my arse though. He jab-steps, flashes the ball, head fakes, the whole 9. He has every move in the book.

Now if you are talking about the Greatest Hits Jordan (ALL 90's team). Well.....lets just put it like this: His player rating is 104 (on a 99 point scale). I literally am NOT lying.

Bigg Russ October 10th, 2002 08:49 AM

Okay... NBA 2K3 is the truth! This game is ON POINT! The animation, the graphics, the ball physics... NIIIIICE!

I'll be on XBL tonight! :D

Meursault's Head October 10th, 2002 09:06 AM

Come on... a little more than that. I thought 2K1 was the best video basketball game I've ever played and have been looking forward to this installment.

Bigg Russ October 10th, 2002 11:00 AM

MH, this game STOMPS 2K1. First off, it's sim... none of that "I can fake and get my lay-up everytime" stuff. The dunks aren't "superhuman", but definitely real and NOT easy to get. The outside shooting seems to be very accurate - if your shooter is good from the outside, you'll get 1-3 in - MAYBE. If your ballhandler shouldn't be shooting from any distance further than 2 feet, you'll know. :)

The d-fence is tight, especially the Lakers' (I was the Nets). Horry and Shaq get in your way and leave Kobe and Fisher open to steal. It was ill! On my side, Dikembe swatted like nobody's business!

The graphics are MUCH better! No more "updated" DC graphics. The player models are much better and their faces show more emotion. The sweat thing is a very cool addition especially on close-ups and replays (turn off the "colored" replay effect.... you'll hate it.)

As I play with more teams, I'll add on...

BTW, you getting on XBL, MH? I'd love a Philly/NY match-up. :)

You're kidding right? It's about time they put MJ and the 90s teams in the game. And I am glad taht they made Jordan as good as he is. He DESERVES that 104 rating for the Greatest Hits Team. You're tempting me to really buy this game...

I bet it is cool watching Michael Jordan beating your tail. :)

Dude, what's holding you back?! Get it... NOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWW!!!!

Well, whenever you get a chance. :)

Jerome October 10th, 2002 02:35 PM

Man I haven't played a Basketball game since 98 on the Saturn... I'm thinking about giving this one a shot :)

Meursault's Head October 10th, 2002 02:43 PM

I picked it up this afternoon but I won't get a chance to give it a go until much later tonight.

A quick look at the manual (feels like quality) made me happy that they got the playground scoring correct. Win by two pal!!!

And Russ I don't know if I'll be getting XBLive (or whatever it's called) but if I do then be assured that there will be a NY/Philly match.

Yeah, I noticed that too for some reason! It's heavy, full and seems to be made of better stock. But I don't read ANY gaming manuals so they may all be like that and I just didn't notice. :)

The Krakken October 11th, 2002 12:20 AM

More impressions....you can tell that they didn't really know what to do with some of the player ratings, especially the young guys like curry, chandler, and Brown. I guess that is due to the fact that they have yet to prove themselves. The rosters are VERY accurate, except for Olajuwons retirement and the Stackhouse/Hamilton trade

If you want the most accurate rosters, then go here:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/movement?conf=east

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/movement?conf=west

And make the changes manually.

As for gameplay......I'll put it to you like this. NO sports game, not even NBA2k1 or 2k2 has challenged football games in my house for "Sports game supremacy".....not since Live 95 kicked the crap out of madden that year.

All that has officially changed. NBA2k3 will be the most played game in my house prolly until XBL launches...and then......:D

THat just changed.

Bigg Russ October 11th, 2002 01:19 AM

HOLY! NBA2K3 over Xbox Live is HOT!! Absolutely NO LAG! And The Krakken is correct, NBA 2K3 just might replace Madden 2003 as my most played sports title. It's that good!

Meursault's Head October 11th, 2002 07:47 AM

I played a couple of games last night and loved it - street game, under the lights, in the rain - good stuff.

More after the weekend and can really put it through its paces.
