Okay...first, I gotta say I really like the game, but shit.. it sure gets tedious looking for this clue and talking to that person.
But the thing that it has against it most is the fact that it's a real world drama. No fantasy storyline. No monsters. No zombies. No guns and guts. Just people talking to people.
Now it's presented in an amazing manner, and the dramatic storyline plays out well... but thank god it's Japan...as the locale and culture is something of interest to me as a westerner. If Shenmue consisted of wandering around in an American city looking for the same goals...it'd be a lot more boring. (I can see how the Japanese were less then thrilled with it because it's their culture).
I dunno...maybe it's just me but the game ain't as fun as if it were a fantasy setting. It's still very good, but maybe just a little too normal for most adventure and RPG lovers who won't be able to stay awake for Disc1 and most of Disc2.
Just MHO.
